Stigmatisierungserfahrung hat Einfluss auf Armutsgefährdung. Denn der Prozess von
Stigmatisierung hat negative Auswirkungen auf das Take-Up Verhalten von Menschen bei
der (Sozial-)Leistungsbeantragung. Dabei kann der Stigmatisierungsprozess vom Umfeld
initiiert werden, oder von den betreffenden Personen selbst antizipiert werden. Des Weiteren
ist es Betroffenen wichtig, nicht ihr soziales Image gegenüber ihrem sozialen Netzwerk zu
beschädigen. Dies führt in weiterer Folge dazu, dass professionelle Hilfsleistungen erst spät
in Anspruch genommen werden. Dies leitet wiederum dazu, dass materielle Deprivation
aufgrund von Stigmatisierung mitunter weiter voranschreitet als notwendig wäre.</lom:langstring>

<lom:langstring xml:lang="en">Poverty of old age can be found all over different social classes. Personal experiences with
stigmatization have an impact of being affected by poverty. Stigmatization is a process, that
shows negative effects on the take-up of public financial aid programs. The process of
stigmatization can be initiated through the social surroundings of an individual, but can also
be initiated by self-anticipation of the person itself. Furthermore, it is essential to humans that
their own social image does not take any damage regarding their own social network. This
leads subsequently to the late utilization of professional support-services which ultimately
has to effect, that stigmatization accelerates material deprivation due to delayed take-up of
financial resources.</lom:langstring>
